(Psalm 23)
Aside from John 3:16, the 23rd Psalm is probably the most recognized passage of Scripture. Songs have been sung about it. Sermons have been preached about it. The ancient image of a shepherd protecting his sheep is a symbol that still resonates with us today. Maybe it’s because it’s comforting to know that our Shepherd will provide us with everything we could possibly need. Maybe it’s because we know that He will protect us from danger. Or could it be the wonderful promise that we will live with Him in His house forever?

I wonder if David knew the impact of these simple words when he wrote this Psalm thousands of years ago. I can’t wait to get to Heaven and tell him how much it’s meant to me.

The Lord is my Shepherd
I shall not want
He makes me to lie down in green pastures
He leads me beside the still waters
He restores my soul
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake

Yea, though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death
I will fear no evil
For You are with me
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me

You prepare a table before me
In the presence of my enemies
You anoint my head with oil
My cup runs over

Surely goodness and mercy
Shall follow me all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever, forever, forever
And ever
