Whenever we sing this song, I think about how the robe and crown that will be given to the redeemed in Christ were purchased at a great cost. Matthew 27:28, 29 says, “And they stripped Him, and put on Him a scarlet robe. And when they had plaited a crown of thorns, they put it upon His head and a reed in His right hand: and they bowed the knee before Him, and mocked Him, saying, Hail King of the Jews!”

Jesus suffered for my sins so that I could wear His robe of righteousness. What great sacrifice! What great mercy! Because of Christ, we shall wear a robe and crown.
