(Matthew 26:16)
My favorite line in this song talks about how people run themselves into debt,
trying to buy happiness, yet they can’t afford the one thing they need the most;
peace. The most profound words spoken by Christ are found in Matthew 26:16. “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

I’m tired of standing on this side of the river, looking across at the Promised Land, aren’t you? It’s time to take that step of faith and head for a place where we can find true peace of mind.

(Chorus)
I’m headed for the peaceful side of Jordan
I’m gettin’ tired of walkin’ this old sinful shore
I know my Heavenly Father is gonna part the waters
When I get there I won’t look back no more

Now brother I’ve had the things this world can offer
And to tell the truth, I really ain’t that impressed
It seems I’m in a hurry to have more work and worry
I’m looking for a place where I can rest

(Repeat Chorus)

Now brother, I’ve had some friends try to tell me different
And material things, they seem to have it all
No matter how much they borrow
They can’t afford tomorrow
They’ve got the world, but have they got their souls?

(Repeat Chorus Twice)

When I get there I won’t look back no more
When I get there I won’t look back no more
I’m headed for the peaceful side of Jordan!
