___________________________
I sing the lead on the first and last sections of this song, and the guys think it's funny that I sing about "children" and "wife" when I'm neither married nor have children! But this is a favorite of our congregations because they get to participate by smiling and waving at us during "Your First Day In Heaven."
There are many more verses to this song, but the ones we chose show the analogy of an old house representing our earthly bodies. One day we won't need them anymore. - Phillip

This ole house once knew my children
This ole house once knew my wife
This ole house was the home and comfort
As we fought the storms of life
This ole house once rang with laughter
This ole house heard many shouts
Now she trembles in the darkness when the lightnin' walks about
(First Chorus)
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
Ain't a-gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the doors
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Or to mend no window pane
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
I'm gettin' ready to meet the saints
This ole house is a-gettin' shaky
This ole house is a-gettin' old
This ole house lets in the rain
And this ole house lets in the cold
On my knees I'm gettin' chilly
But I feel no fear or pain
'Cause I see an angel peakin'
Through the broken window pane
(Repeat First Chorus)
(Second Chorus)
Well it's a great, great morning
Your first day in Heaven
When you stroll down the golden avenue
There are mansions left and right
And you thrill with every sight
And the saints are always smiling
Saying, "How do you do?"
Well it's a great, great morning
Your first day in Heaven
When you realize your worryin' days are through
You'll be glad you were not idle
Took time to read your Bible
It's a great, great morning for you
Well I had a dream, I must confess I hated to awake
He dreamed he was an angel at the great Pearly Gates
St. Peter said "Hello friend! Where have you been?
We've got your mansion ready, so come right in!"
And then he rang for an angel to act as a guide
He spread his wings a time or two and learned how to fly!
(Repeat Second Chorus)
This ole house is afraid of thunder
This ole house is afraid of storms
This ole house just groans and trembles when the night wind flings its arms
This ole house is a-gettin' feeble
This ole house is a-needin' paint
It's like me, it's tuckered out
And I'm gettin' ready to meet the saints
(Repeat First Chorus)
You'll be glad you were not idle
Took time to read your Bible
It's a great, great morning for you
